Location

Grafton Beach - click to enlargeWith the close proximity of these two self-catering apartments and one-bedroom cottage to a few of the nicest beaches located in Grafton and the Mount Irvine Bay areas, a handy mini-mart, tasty places like The Fish Pot and The Pavillion to eat, not to mention the only cash-stop on the Caribbean coast – it is possible to stay at Hibiscus Heights without your own transport and still have a holiday packed with lots to see and do.

Tobago has been hailed worldwide as a premiere eco-tourism destination – beautiful beaches are only a small part of what this tropical island has to offer.

Tobago’s exquisite reefs are home to an explosion of marine life, over 1000 species of animals and plants have been identified in and around Tobago’s waters up to a depth of 200 ft (60 meters) – from the microscopic to the majestic. Hibiscus Heights is about a 10-minute walk from Back Bay, a small secluded bay between Grafton and Mount Irvine Bay, where snorkeling is supposed to be the best. Also, just a 5-minute walk downhill from the villa, there is a fully equipped PADI dive shop on Grafton Beach offering introductory and refresher courses.

Hibiscus Heights is ideally situated at the beginning of the north-side road, which means the operators of all the big tours will be going right by your door on their way up to the Rain Forest, and you’ll be treated to lots of stops at quaint bays and secluded waterfalls all the way up the Caribbean coast.

Tobago is one of the few places left in the world to which critically endangered populations of Hawksbill, Green and giant leatherback sea turtles return every year to lay their eggs. Hibiscus Heights is about a 5-minute walk away from Great Courland Bay, and the long sandy beach there is a prime nesting site.

Tobago is home to 210 species of Birds and these self-catering holiday apartments available for rent at Hibiscus Heights are ideally situated close to a 200-acre Wildlife Sanctuary & Cocoa Estate bird-watching trails.

In December, for two months, waves are usually the biggest attraction in the area. Hibiscus Heights is less than a 10-minute walk away from Mt. Irvine Beach, a favourite with surfers worldwide, where there are kayaks and motorized sea-craft to rent, and the PGA Championship Mt. Irvine Golf Course is just up the hill.

Also, please note close proximity of these self-catering apartments/villa to the Plymouth Jazz Festival, Tobago’s biggest annual event: Tobago hosted its first Jazz Festival in 2005 and it was such a huge success – this past year featuring big-name stars such as Sir Elton himself – that it has since been an annual event. Hopefully, one day, it’ll be an institution. Just like the long-standing Sunday School street-pan party, held weekly in Buccoo, is: a place where locals and visitors can interact, people-watch, join in a really big jam session. More so than Carnival (a far more intense celebration in Trinidad, Tobago’s more cosmopolitan sister isle), in only its third year, the Plymouth Jazz Festival has already become Tobago’s biggest yearly event.
